Perplexity’s Upcoming Browser Plans to Track Everything Users Do Online

Perplexity isn’t just aiming to compete with Google—it’s trying to become it. CEO Aravind Srinivas revealed on a podcast this week that Perplexity’s upcoming browser, Comet, will track everything users do online—from shopping habits to restaurant searches—all in the name of building better user profiles and selling more relevant ads.

Set to launch in May, Comet mirrors the strategies that made Google a tech giant: browser dominance + user data = ad goldmine. Perplexity is even partnering with Motorola to pre-install its app on new phones and is rumored to be in talks with Samsung as well.

But with privacy concerns rising globally and regulators watching Big Tech like hawks, Perplexity’s bold strategy could backfire just as easily as it could pay off.

Key Points

  • Comet Browser coming soon – Launching in May, with built-in tracking to fuel premium ad sales.

  • Tracking everything – Browsing habits, purchases, travel plans—all fair game to build richer user profiles.

  • Big mobile moves – App to be pre-installed on Motorola Razr devices, with Samsung talks underway.

  • Following Google’s playbook – Comet aims to replicate Google’s success through deep user data collection.

  • Regulatory risks loom – As Google faces antitrust scrutiny, Perplexity could find itself in the same privacy hot seat.

OpenAI makes its upgraded image generator available to developers

OpenAI’s viral image-generation tech—the same one that flooded the internet with Ghibli-style photos and AI action figures—is now officially available to developers via API. Powered by the gpt-image-1 model, developers can now integrate advanced image generation into their own apps and platforms, opening up a new wave of creative possibilities.

The move comes after an explosive debut within ChatGPT, where users created over 700 million images in the first week alone. OpenAI is aiming to build on that momentum, but with pricing tiers, adjustable quality levels, and safety guardrails to keep things (mostly) under control.

key Points

  • gpt-image-1 now live for developers – Create multistyle AI images with custom guidelines and real-world knowledge.

  • Built-in safety tools – Includes moderation settings and C2PA watermarks to tag images as AI-generated.

  • Flexible pricing – Costs range from 2¢ to 19¢ per image, depending on quality and output size.

  • Major brands already onboard – Adobe, Wix, Canva, Instacart, and Figma are already experimenting with the model.

  • Massive demand potential – Following its viral launch, OpenAI is betting developers will want to tap into the next big thing in AI creativity.

Character AI Introduces New Video Generation Model

Character.AI, the platform known for AI-driven roleplay chats, has unveiled its next major innovation: AvatarFX, a new AI video generation model that can animate its characters into human-like or cartoon-style videos. Now in closed beta, AvatarFX can generate videos not just from text prompts, but also by animating preexisting images, including photos of real people.

While the tech is exciting, it also raises serious concerns. As AI-generated video becomes easier to create, experts worry about deepfake abuse and emotional manipulation, especially given Character.AI's troubled history with safety on its platform. The company says it’s building in watermarks, celebrity filters, and minor protection measures, but real-world risks remain a hot topic.

key Points

  • Beyond text-to-video – AvatarFX can animate still photos, not just generate video from text prompts.

  • Deepfake risks acknowledged – Character.AI promises watermarks, minor protection, and celebrity detection filters to prevent abuse.

  • Emotional impact concerns – Adding video could deepen user attachment to AI characters, raising mental health risks.

  • Parental controls expanded – In response to previous incidents, Character.AI has added more safety features—but enforcement remains a challenge.

  • Closed beta launch – AvatarFX is not publicly available yet, and the effectiveness of its safeguards remains to be seen.

How Objects Can Be Swapped in a Video

Want to swapped object in a video. Through Kling AI, objects within a video can be efficiently swapped, added, or removed with minimal effort in just few steps.

Here’s how:

  1. The Kling AI website should be accessed, and a sign-in must be completed.

  2. The "Video" option must be selected, followed by choosing "Multi-Elements." A video (maximum 5 seconds) should then be uploaded.

  3. The object intended for replacement must be clicked on, and the selection can be refined by clicking around the object. Once finalized, it should be confirmed.

  4. An image containing the replacement object must be uploaded, and a prompt should be entered in the following format:

    'Swap [x] from [@Video] with [x] from [@Image]'

  5. The "Generate" button must be clicked. After the new video is created, it should be reviewed and downloaded if satisfactory.
