OpenAI Reportedly Building Its Own X-Like Social Network

OpenAI may be making its next big move—into social media. According to a report from The Verge, the company behind ChatGPT is quietly developing an X-like social network that centers around AI-generated images and possibly broader ChatGPT functionality.

Still in its early prototype phase, the project could either emerge as a standalone app or be folded into the ChatGPT platform. The move would pit OpenAI against Elon Musk’s X and Meta’s platforms like Facebook and Instagram, while also giving the company access to the real-time user data it needs to train its AI models more effectively.

While it’s unclear if this social app will ever go public, the prototype hints that OpenAI is eyeing broader consumer engagement—and rethinking what social media powered by AI could look like.

Key Points

  • Social feed prototype in testing – OpenAI is experimenting with a ChatGPT-linked social feed, focused initially on image generation.

  • Standalone or integrated? – The company hasn’t decided whether this will be a separate app or part of ChatGPT.

  • Challenging tech giants – This move would put OpenAI in direct competition with X and Meta in the social space.

  • Data advantage – A social network would give OpenAI access to real-time content and interaction data to improve its models.

  • Altman seeking feedback – CEO Sam Altman is quietly asking for input, signaling serious interest—but no public launch is confirmed yet

OpenAI Launches GPT-4.1: A New Era for AI-Powered Coding

OpenAI just introduced GPT-4.1, a new family of AI models designed specifically for coding and instruction following. The lineup includes GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and GPT-4.1 nano, each optimized for different levels of speed, cost, and performance. These models are API-only and boast a massive 1-million-token context window, enabling them to handle extremely large inputs—more than the length of War and Peace.

This release signals OpenAI’s ongoing push to create an “agentic software engineer” — an AI system that can eventually build full apps from scratch, complete with QA testing and documentation. While GPT-4.1 doesn’t fully get there yet, it's a step closer, with upgrades in formatting, tool usage, and frontend reliability.

key Points

  • Three models for coding: GPT-4.1 (most powerful), mini (balanced), and nano (fastest and cheapest).

  • Designed for developers: Improved performance on frontend coding, formatting, and tool integration.

  • Competitive on benchmarks: GPT-4.1 performs well on SWE-bench but trails Gemini 2.5 Pro and Claude 3.7 Sonnet slightly.

  • Massive input capacity: Handles up to 1 million tokens, but accuracy drops with longer prompts.

  • Affordable pricing tiers: Ranging from $2 per million tokens (GPT-4.1) down to $0.10 (nano).

xAI Adds Memory to Grok, Making It Smarter and More Personal

Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI has just rolled out a “memory” feature for its chatbot Grok, bringing it closer in functionality to ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. This new update allows Grok to remember past conversations, enabling more personalized responses over time—especially when it comes to recommendations or follow-up questions.

The feature is currently in beta and available on Grok.com and the Grok iOS and Android apps, but notably excluded from the EU and U.K. for now. Like other leading AI tools, Grok’s memory is transparent and user-controlled, giving users the ability to see what’s stored, delete specific memories, or disable the feature entirely.

key Points

  • Personalized responses – Grok now remembers user preferences for smarter, more tailored recommendations.

  • Transparent and editable memory – Users can view, manage, or delete specific memories at any time.

  • Beta rollout – Currently live on Grok.com and mobile apps, with Android memory controls arriving soon.

  • Privacy-conscious design – Memory can be turned off in settings; not yet available in the EU or U.K. due to regulatory constraints.

  • Coming soon to X – xAI plans to expand memory support to Grok’s interface on X (formerly Twitter).
